Let’s Talk About The Municipal Dumpsite
Please read and get to know the kind of waste that is and not acceptable at the facility. Today’s article will focus on the Manzini municipal dumpsite which is located near the Golf Course cemetery. Did you know, dear reader, that there is waste that is acceptable and one that is not acceptable at the dumpsite? Manzini News has gathered that only three classes of waste are acceptable at the dumpsite.
These are general waste, garden waste and some industrial waste material. General waste includes domestic waste such as food waste, plastics, bottles, cartons, cleaning material containers and office waste paper. Garden waste includes such things as flowers, tree trimmings, grass and tree leaves. Industrial waste that is acceptable for disposal at the dumpsite includes wood chips and cartons. When general waste gets to the dumpsite it is screened, weighed, compacted and covered with soil. Covering is meant to protect the site from becoming a breeding ground for mosquitoes and flies. It is also meant to suppress bad odor. On the same note, there are three categories of waste that is not acceptable at the dumpsite. These are medical waste such as swabs, bandages, syringes, expired pharmaceutical drugs, radio-active material as well as anatomic organs such as human body parts.
This is primarily waste that is generated by hospitals, clinics and pharmacies. Smaller quantities (e.g. bandages and syringe) are generated at domestic level. Another category of waste that is not acceptable at the dumpsite is agricultural supplies such as pesticides and other farming chemicals. Industrial waste such as used oil, oil filters, oil racks, paint and solvents, used batteries and fluorescent tubes are another big no for the dumpsite. If you need to dispose any of these hazardous waste, please contact Council (2508 5030) and the Community Services Department will assist with their disposal. This kind of waste is not for disposal at the dumpsite but Council has a special way of disposing them.
